Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, is an advanced, state-of-the-art medical imaging method. MRI uses a powerful but harmless magnetic field and radiowaves to produce detailed images of specific body structures and organs.

Breast MRI procedures are performed at Advanced Imaging of Lafayette, an MRI facility located adjacent to the breast center. Dr. Gary Mathews, radiologist at Breast Center of Acadiana, interprets all breast MRIs performed at  Advanced Imaging of Lafayette

What is an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) biopsy?

An MRI breast biopsy is a procedure that uses computer technology to guide a needle to an abnormality seen on MRI.  The abnormality usually cannot be felt on breast self-examination or clinical examination by your primary care physician or seen by mammogram or ultrasound of the breast.

This is a simple, minimally invasive and safe procedure performed at our center by our team of breast imaging specialists.  The procedure requires little recovery time and there is no significant scarring to the breast.
